LECTURE NOTES
Lecture 1: Briefing and Introduction in Design Research Methodology
30.8.19 (Week 1)
For our first class, we were given an introduction by Dr. Yati and Dr. Jinchi on what to expect for this module. We went through the module information booklet together. And was told to choose a research topic that we were passionate about and interested in. There were no limitations given about the topic but it had to be based on the specialisation we were going to go to because it could be our project in the final year.
Lecture 2: Research Proposal
6.9.19 (Week 2)
We started the class with a lecture given by Dr Jinchi which was about how to find our problem statement, the research question, and the research objective. Then we were separated into 2 groups one group under Dr. Yati and the other group was under Dr. Jinchi. I was placed under Dr. Yati's group.
Lecture 3: Research Proposal
13.9.19 (Week 3)
No lectures were conducted because we had a session with the librarian called research 101 where she taught us how to do research using Taylor's facilities and proper way to cite from books and online articles.
INSTRUCTIONS
Proposal | Week 1 - Week 4
Week 1
We had to figure out a topic that might be interesting to us and do a little research about it. I had a consultation with Dr. Yati about how I would like to find out why the elderly liked to play mobile games like Candy Crush.
Feedback
Dr. Yati told me that instead of focusing on why the elderly liked to play mobile games like Candy Crush, find out how they made the game. For example, how to be a good game developer.
Week 2
I then decided I wanted to change my previous topic still using mobile applications but also including mental health into the equation.
Feedback
I was given feedback from Dr. Jinchi because I did not have a proper topic yet thus Dr. Yati was also in the middle of having a consultation with my classmate. She told me to find my problem statement from the articles I have read, to find an objective which can drive my research questions.
Week 3
The topic I chose was about 'how can people use mobile applications to monitor their symptoms of mental health' but Dr. Hayati told me to think of a better topic than that so I changed it to the lack of applicable mobile applications to aid in mental health issues.
Feedback
11.9.19 - on Whatsapp
Dr. Hayati suggested to me that I should focus on how what I want to contribute to my research findings in the future and how it can be helpful for future students.
In class:
Dr. Hayati told me that I should rephrase my objectives and questions to fit the time limit I have to find the information I need. And since my research is heavily based on psychology I was advised to read articles where psychologists gave their information because I am not an expert in that field.
This is my final proposal.
