LECTURE NOTES

Lecture 1: Briefing
7.1.20 (Week 1)
Today we were given a brief lecture about what to expect for this module. Then Mr Kannan gave us the topic we needed to present in the next class which was about Manuel Lima's 9 Directive Manifestos.

Lecture 2:  Manuel Lima's 9 Directive Manifestos
10.1.20 (Week 1)

We gave the lecture on Manuel Lima's 9 Directive Manifestos and got feedback from Ms Anis. She told us that at the end of the presentations she would choose the best group and the best presenter. We were happy to know that our group did well and our groupmate Gordon was the best presenter of the week. For our next presentations, we should be more analytical about the topic and we should learn and know what we are talking about instead of reading the slides.

Lecture 3: L.A.C.T.H
17.1.20 (Week 2)

We gave a presentation on L.A.T.C.H to the class.

Lecture 4: Miller's Law (Chunking)
24.1.20 (Week 3)

We gave a presentation on Miller's Law to the class.

EXERCISES

Exercise 1: Buttons Infographic | Week 1 | 7.1.20

For this exercise, we had an individual assignment called 'Quantify & visualize data'. We were given either lego blocks or buttons to choose from, I chose sea coloured buttons. From the buttons, we had to figure out what information it had such as holes, size, and texture. And to arrange it as an infographic poster. We had to take the information we gathered and plan out the layout of the buttons before the next class.

Exercise 1: Buttons Infographic | Week 1 | 10.1.20

We had to use the ideas/layouts we came up with to create an infographic poster. The buttons must be on the A4 paper together with labels. Thus we also had to recount the buttons again as some of them might be missing. The data collected are shown below:

The final outcome I chose was the wand casting a spell. I had quite a number of textures which made it quite tricky and labeled it as holes, texture, and size.

Exercise 2: L.A.T.C.H  | Week 2 | 14.1.20

For this week, Ms Anis and Mr Kannan explained our second exercise to us which was to use L.A.T.C.H to create an infographic poster about Pokemon. L.A.T.C.H (Location, Alphabet, Time, Category, and Hierarchy) is used to organise data in an efficient way.

After that, we had a refreshment class with Mr Shamsul where he taught us how to use After Effects. We learned simple things like how to create shapes with pen tool, how to move the anchor point and useful information that we can use for our final project. We also had to show a pie chart animation and a moving car on a road or anything we wanted.

Exercise 2: L.A.T.C.H  | Week 2 | 17.1.20

Our second exercise was to create an infographic poster about 4 types of pokemon using the LATCH theory.

Location: On top of the pokemon balls
Alphabet: Pokemon in alphabetical order
Time: Pokemon's evolution
Category: Pokemon types
Hierarchy: Pokemon evolution and pokemon balls

I don't know much about Pokemon so I had to do my research first. I chose generation III to focus on. I was having problems with my location I did not want it to be just a plain map that you can zoom out of. So I found out there are different types of pokeballs a poke ball, great ball, ultra ball, and master ball and I thought why not use that as the hierarchy with an island on top to represent the location.

Fig 2.1.2 Putting the different pokeballs together to see if I can put the island on it

I felt like it didn't turn out as I wanted it to so I used 3D shapes instead so the circle became a sphere.

Fig 2.1.3 2D circle to 3D circle

I proceeded to build the island based on the category of the pokemon that I chose in alphabetical order. So it starts with Glowlithe (fire), Slakoth (normal), Tentacool (water/poison) and Weedle (bug/poison).

Fig 2.2.1 Zoomed version of the first two islands which are Glowlithe (fire) and Slakoth (normal)

Fig 2.2.2 Zoomed version of the last two islands which are Tentacool (water/poison) and Weedle (bug/poison)

I noticed that the last island where Weedle was on did not match the art style as for the other islands so I changed it to a more geometric style.

Fig 3.1.1 Poster
It felt too heavy on the right side so I moved it a little to the left to balance the poster and added labels to the types of pokemon. Here is the final poster.
