FINAL PROJECT
Briefing of Final Project & Choosing topics by slots | Week 1 | 7.1.20
Mr Shamsul told us to gather in groups of 4 and we were briefed about the final project. There were 4 topics in total which were Men Vs Women, Electic, Water, and Natural Disaster, our group leader had to choose 1 topic by picking slots. My group members are Gordon, Kar Yan, Kelly and myself and the topic we got was 'Water'.
Then we had to decide on a title that we liked. At first, we wanted it to be from a water droplet's perspective so the title would've been "the life of a water droplet" but Mr Shamsul told us to do something more interesting. Then we thought of 'what would happen when we run out of saliva' as I haven't seen an infographic video about that topic before.
Creating a Narrative | Week 1 | 10.1.20
We had to write a narrative based on the title of the video 'what would happen when we run out of saliva'. We also asked other groups to read our narrative and get feedback. Before the next class, we have to create a mood board based on the typing style, colour scheme, typeface, motion graphics, transition style, etc. Below is the narrative in docs.
Moodboard | Week 2
Our mood board was presented to the class.
We had to finalise our narrative script and proceed to sketch out our storyboards. We divided the scenes to each of the members to draw the storyboard.
Our final narrative listed below.
Here are our draft storyboards.
Feedback: Mr. Shamsul wanted us to refine some scenes and asked us to determine the transitions between individual scenes. He also asked us to refine our composition styles and to determine the placement of our text.
Animatics and Final Storyboard | Week 4
This week, Kar Yan had to record her voiceover for the narrative, Gordon worked on the graphics while I helped compile the graphics along with the background music, Kar Yan's voice over and some sound effects.
Our animatics video:
Feedback: Mr. Shamsul commented that the background music was too loud. In his personal opinion, the lubricant effect scene was too fast and we should show the teeth that are broken instead of ulcers when the character couldn't eat. He also asked us to label the amylase, lysozymes, bacteria and red blood cells. He also suggested us to increase the usage of graphs and charts in our video.
Our updated and compiled storyboard:
Trip for Intercultural | Week 5
We went to Japan for our intercultural project.
Colouring, Animating and Compiling | Week 6 - Week 7
For the coming weeks, most of our classes were online as there were a lot of assignments and workloads to handle and we were also given consultations for the days that we didn't have to go to class. Gordon started with colouring and drawing the graphics whilst Kar Yan and I help animate the graphics using After Effects. And Kelly added the background music with the sound effects.
After Gordon was done with the graphics, we divided the scenes to edit between me and Kar Yan. I edited scenes 2,3,4,7 and 8. I started off with scene 2 which had 6 sections so it took some time for me to edit it without the AE being laggy. I noticed that if you create an Illustrator file (layer) into shapes, AE tends to lag a little but it depends on the file overall.
The screenshot below is scene 2c which was complicated for me to edit as I had to show the water going down from the oesophagus to the stomach and so on.

Final Outcome
Our video file was too big to upload onto Youtube so we had to submit the low-resolution first. But we managed to upload the high-resolution video. Here is the final outcome.
